Phosphorylcholin (PC) is a molecular component, that both in human, animal and plant cells occurs and is recognized as the body's own substance. PC is zwitterionic, d.h. charged positive and negative at the same time, thus non-ionic to the outside. Due to the electrical neutrality, the surface of the contact lens does not tend to form deposits, z.B. Lipids and proteins from the tear film.
